Are you measuring success wrong?

👋 Hi Reader

When we think about business growth, what comes to mind? Profit, projects, followers? That’s how I measured success too…

Last year, I had my highest revenue year by far. I was so proud, but something felt off.

I had achieved the numbers I set out for, but it just didn’t feel as fulfilling as I expected.

And when I look back, it wasn’t the highest-paying projects that I’m most proud of. It was the collaborations that excited me, the clients who became friends, the risks I took that reminded me why I do this.

That’s when I realised: the business growth metric no one talks about is how you feel.

Of course, money is important - it gives us freedom and security. But if your business is constantly draining you, is it really what you want?

We start our own businesses to create something we love, yet so often, we measure success by someone else’s standards. What if you defined growth on your own terms?

3 steps to track (and improve) how your business feels:

  1. Audit your energy levels: At the end of each week, ask yourself: What drained me? What gave me energy? If all your worst moments are happening in your work, it might be time to realign your offers or clients.
  2. Check your decision-making: Are you making choices from fear and scarcity (“I have to take this project”) or excitement?
  3. Track your wins beyond money: Who did you impact? What did you learn? What moments made you feel proud? These are the things that create long-term fulfillment and sustainability.

When tracking, focus on impact, joy, and self development - because true success isn’t just about the numbers, it’s about building a business that actually feels good to run.

Another simple way to track growth:

I love looking back at old journal entries to see how much I’ve grown or what I’m still working on. It’s a great way to track growth, but I’m not always consistent.

That’s why I use FutureMe. You write letters to your future self, and it arrives in your inbox on a selected future date.

I’d love to hear from you too - What’s a recent win in your business that wasn’t about the numbers? Reply and let me know!

Mine was that a client invited me to his 60th birthday party next month. I won't be able to join but was flattered to get an invite 😄

Until next time, have a wonderful week!

Hi Reader Around this time of year there's a lot of pressure. Pressure to finish the year strong, plan for next year and already start being the best version of yourself for 2025. Here's 2 tips to make goal-setting a bit easier: 1. Choose a word, set an intention Instead of listing 100 small goals, focus on one word or intention. eg. Balance, Growth, Adventure, Connection. This word become the 'why' behind every action you take. 2. Be Flexible You can't predict or control everything, and...

Hi Reader Recently I took a 3-week holiday and didn't stress about work. Something I never thought possible a few years ago. But after a few hectic months, I desperately needed to switch off. The idea of being without my laptop for three weeks initially made me nervous, but it was well worth it. The holiday was stress-free, relaxing, and even a bit profitable. Here's how: #1 Don't leave it until the last minute Planning is key. I always say this but still wait until the last minute to get...
